20% Time Update #6

This week I finished my flower "project" on the pillowcase. The only question I have is on how the stitched on the example photos are so neat, but I'm sure it comes with time. The main challenge I have come across is comparing my final product to the reference photo. My goal for next week is to finish my PowerPoint and to either redo my flowers on a white sweater or to touch up the flowers on my pillowcase.

20% Percent Time #5

Over this past week, I have worked on perfecting embroidery flowers. The only questions I have are just really how to improve my satin stitch. The only challenge I've come across is just using a combination of the stitches I've practiced to make a design is just difficult. My goal for next week is to finish the last 4 flowers on my practice.

20% Time Update #4

This week I have learned the woven rose, french knot, and the lazy daisy stitch. I also have received my embroidery thread, so I have been practicing the stitches that I already knew with the thicker thread. This week the only question I have is how long will I need to practice this before I become "good" at this skill? The only challenge I have come across was learning how to space the embroidery thread because it was much thicker then the thread I was previously using. My goals for next week are to start practicing my techniques on some of my actual clothing and to become better at some of the more complicated stitches.

20% Time Update #3

Over the past week, I have learned the Stem Stitch and the Herringbone Stitch. The only question I have right now is about the arrival of the new embroidery thread. It was supposed to arrive this week, however, with the Corona Virus, the shipping has been delayed so essential items can be shipped. I have come across two challenges this week. The first was the delayed shipping of the thread. The second was finding out my last 5 planned stitches were actually not embroidery stitches, but sewing machine stitches. With that challenge, I have had to re-work my personal calendar and find new embroidery stitches to learn. My goals for next week are to become better at the stitches I've already done and learn two new stitches.

20% Time Update #2

So far, in my embroidery journey, I have accomplished the running stitch, basting stitch, cross-stitch, and backstitch. The only question I really have at this point is how embroidering will change with the fabric being used. So far I have learned that the thread that I have been using has been the wrong thread, which made it very difficult to complete these stitches. One challenge I have had to overcome is waiting for the new thread to be shipped to my house so the process will be easier for me to do. The thread I was using before was too wide, so I have resorted to using sewing thread for right now.   Another challenge has been trying to fit my 20% time project in with all of my other schoolwork, which has caused me to fall behind one technique. My goals for next week are to learn the slipstitch, blanket stitch, forward/backward stitch, and the zig-zag stitch.

E-Commerce Article #4

In times where E-Commerce businesses are booming with purely online sales, the Entrepreneur's, " How to Simply (and Effectively) Make Your E-Commerce Business Stand Out " article can lend some tips to sites that might be the second choice to consumers. This article gives 4 major ways for e-commerce businesses to stand out against the thousands of sites just like them. The first way is to create a memorable unique selling proposition (USP). With a USP, you can turn a site from just another place to buy baby clothes into a "baby experience". Another way to boost your website is to get involved in a meaningful cause. Getting involved in a cause allows customers to feel as if they are helping something bigger with their purchase. A third tactic to increase sales is to invest in a visually appealing website. A website that shows off products in an appealing way and is not confusing to use is shown to increase the chances a customer will return to the site and place a...

E-Commerce Article #3

My third article is titled, " 4 High-Impact Ways to Boost E-Commerce Sales You Haven't Tried Yet ." This article gives suppliers and small businesses 4 major ways to improve their online sales. These tactics are to not make checkout registration mandatory, to offer an appealing newsletter incentive, to highlight the key benefits of the products your selling, and to offer exclusive value propositions on the website homepage. I personally think these 4 tactics would raise the sales seen by e-commerce businesses as these changes would make the customer more likely to fulfill their order and also more likely to come back for a second or third purchase. I highly suggest this article to anyone for an interesting read.
