E-Commerce Post #1

My first article for my bi-weekly post is from the New York Times and is titled, "How E-Commerce Sites Manipulate You Into Buying Things You May Not Want." This article described how websites use manipulative tactics to get last-minute sales by informing the consumer that another consumer just like them had just brought another product on their website. However, this purchase and even this person does not exist. But, by using a relatable person it influences the consumer to purchase the product, boosting the sales of the website. I would highly suggest reading this article to avoid falling into a trap laid by some online retailers and gaining insight into what influences other's purchases.

  1. I like this article too because it informs the reader how websites bait people in to buying products, the article talked about how other people want to fit in like that person who just bought a dress and saved "big bucks". But it's actually not a real person and they just want you to buy an overpriced dress thinking you're saving.

  2. I think it's interesting how easy it is for websites to use "traps" for consumers to buy things. Shouldn't there be some kind of regulation in place to limit that ability? Is there for in-person stores?
